What is Monitored

And Why It Matters

Common Energy Issues

  • Unexpected Runtime: After-hours HVAC, lighting, plug loads

  • Always-On Loads: Equipment left on overnight or weekends

  • Erratic Load Patterns: Short cycling or excessive on/off behavior

  • Simultaneous Heating & Cooling: Prevents system overlap and waste

  • Plug Load Monitoring: Identifies hidden draws from devices

  • Demand Spikes: Large loads starting together causing peak demand

Performance Insights

  • Load Drift & Anomalies: Detects deviation from expected usage

  • Power Factor & Voltage Quality: Electrical efficiency insights

  • Baseline Intelligence: High-resolution visibility over time

  • Anomaly Detection: AI-powered alerts for abnormal consumption

  • Mechanical Inefficiencies: Flagged through real-time load behavior

  • Data for Strategic Decisions: Actionable insights portfolio-wide

Meet the Founders

Verdigris Founders - Mark Chung, Thomas Chung and Jon Chu

Jonathan Chu

(Left)

Co‑Founder & CTO

Jonathan leads Verdigris’s technology development and R&D. A dual master’s degree holder in Computer Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon, he previously developed deep-packet inspection and robotics systems at XLP and IBM. He brings a decade of experience in AI and algorithm engineering.

The Story Behind

The Name “Verdigris”

Verdigris” refers to the natural green patina that forms on copper over time—a visual transformation that perfectly reflects the company’s mission.

The name was born during a brainstorming session between the founders in a San Francisco apartment, as they envisioned a way to reveal what buildings keep hidden. Just as copper slowly transforms with time and exposure, Verdigris was built to uncover and illuminate the invisible: energy inefficiencies, equipment faults, and performance drifts that traditional systems miss.

It’s a poetic nod to the copper wiring at the heart of every building—and to the idea that, with the right technology, unseen infrastructure can tell a powerful story.
